John William Moon, 45, returned home to live with his Heavenly Father on August 3, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. John was born on August 12, 1969 in Houston, Texas. He had many wonderful memories of growing up in that area, especially exploring the forest from day start to end near their Cypress home. He moved to Temple when he was a junior in high school. John was a 1987 graduate of Temple High School. He then attended Texas A&M University. Although originally a business major, he quickly changed his mind with his first visit to the architecture building on campus one night. As soon as he saw the drawings on the wall, he knew what he was meant to do for a career. John graduated from Texas A&M in 1992 with a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture. He lived in Dallas working at Lambert's and NJB for a short while. He moved back to Temple when he married his high school sweetheart, Kandee Bulls, on July 16, 1994. John worked as a landscape architect for TBG in Austin for several years. As his children grew older, he felt the need to work closer to home. He accomplished his dream of opening his own architectural illustration business in July of 2002 with the creation of MoonDesign. John was a man of great faith. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He lived his life following the example of Christ. He was selfless. He never was concerned about himself, but about what he could do to better the lives of others. If he saw a need, he would try his best to meet it. He lived a very humble life. He was a man of many talents, but was never boastful. He did not care about job titles or how many letters were after his name on his business card, but just working hard at what he loved to provide for his family and make the world a better, prettier place one project at a time. He knew that he was blessed with a special gift to not only visualize design but to actually produce it. He knew it was something that needed to be shared. He spent countless hours volunteering at universities and working side by side with his work colleagues mentoring, training, teaching them his special techniques and the process of design. He loved knowing that his artistic legacy would not be lost, but could live on through the ones he taught as they pay it forward, so that he could continue to help others for years to come. The most important thing to John was his family. He was a wonderful example of what a husband, father, and son should be. He always put his family first. His favorite thing to do in life was to take his family on what he called "adventures". Rock climbing in his Jeep, exploring caves, the art of rock skipping at the lake, making a original hiking path just to see where it leads are just a few examples. He was successful in giving his children his love of nature and they will carry it on forever. John was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lee and Opal Scarpinato and his paternal grandfather, Austin Moon. He is survived by his wife, Kandee Moon of Temple; one son, Tyler Moon of Temple; two daughters, Kaylee Moon and Emily Moon both of Temple; his mother, Sandy Rogers and her husband, Joe, of Temple; his father, Jim Moon and his wife Amy of Houston; one brother, Mike Moon and his wife Marianne of Paradise; his paternal grandmother, Marcella Moon of Lawrenceburg, Indiana and many other family members and friends. Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday, August 7, 2015, at Dossman Funeral Home with Bishop Gregory Jaffers and Brother Jay Atwood officiating. He will be laid to rest at Flint Creek Cemetery.
