Robert "Bob" Stephen Hickerson

May 14, 1948 — August 27, 2015

Robert "Bob" Hickerson, 67, left this earth to be in the arms of his heavenly father on August 27, 2015. He died peacefully in his home on Thursday morning, surrounded by family. Bob was born in Salina, Kansas on May 14, 1948 to Glenn and Mildred Hickerson. After graduating Connally High School in Waco in 1966 he honorably served our country in the U. S. Air Force from 1969 -1972. He completed three tours of duty in Vietnam and achieved the rank of SSGT. Bob worked as a VA benefits counselor for 9 years before joining the Texas Veterans Commission on Fort Hood in the same capacity. He retired in 2003 after serving countless veterans across the state of Texas. Bob spent many of his retirement years living on the Texas coast where he enjoyed fishing and making new friends. He and his wife returned to the Temple area in 2014 to be close to family. During his last days, Bob and his family traveled to Pierre Part, Louisiana to visit friends and fulfill his wish of meeting Troy Landry from "Swamp People." Anyone that knew Bob knows that he never met a stranger. He will always be remembered for his love of life and sense of humor. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and brother Glenn Hickerson, Jr. Bob is survived by his wife Judy Hickerson; son Robert Hickerson and wife Melissa Uhler Hickerson of Temple, daughter Janna Montgomery of Belton; the mother of his children Becky Woodard of Moffat; stepson Steven Kidd and wife Carla Kidd of Belton; stepdaughter Karen McInnis and husband Daniel McInnis of Weslaco; and nine grandchildren. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at the Dossman Funeral Home Chapel. Memorials may be made to any Veteran's charity of your choice.
