Graveside services for Samuel Lee Scott, 68, of Belton will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 10, at Copperas Cove City Cemetery. Mr. Scott passed away Friday, October 2. He was born November 17, 1946 to Ralph C. Eves and Doris Baker Cooney in Toledo, Ohio. He married Martha A. (Peckham) Scott on July 7, 1992 in Paris, Texas. He served as a Helicopter Pilot in the United States Army receiving a Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal with Numerals 28, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver and four Bronze Service Stars, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Aviator Badge, Aircraft Crewman's Badge, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Bronze Star and a Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm decorations and retiring at Fort Hood in 1984 after twenty years of service. He was an active member of the Belton VFW. Sam and Martha moved to Belize, Central America where they lived for approximately 20 years operating a mini resort. They had many wonderful guests who frequented often. Due to Sam's deteriorating health, he moved back to the U.S. a few years ago to be closer to medical care. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Tyler Thomas-Scott Cranfill. Survivors include his former wife, Nancy Elmore Sneed; their son, Anthony Scott and wife, Sunday of Belton; their daughter, Laura Scott Cranfill of Copperas Cove; a brother, Mike Baker and wife, Darlene of Van Alstyne, Texas; sister, Kathleen Scott Oliver and husband, James of Grand Rapids, Michigan; two grandchildren, Charlene S. Kleshick and Katie P. Cranfill; a great grandson, Corbin A. Kleshick; wife, Martha; sister-in-law, Karen Torres of Lumberton, Texas and brother-in-law, Bob Currie of Temple, Texas; two nieces, Dori Baker and Megan K. Oliver Beute and two nephews; Derek Baker and Scott Oliver and their families. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to MADD Killeen Office 2201 S WS Young Drive Building C 106 Killeen, Texas 76542, in memory of his grandson, Tyler Thomas-Scott Cranfill.
