1 March 2016

On March 1st Dave received his final change of duty station from his “Sky Pilot” while surrounded by family at home in Belton, TX.  Everyone that knew Dave will miss his happy, hearty, loud laugh; his teasing orneriness, and loyal friendship.  Born in Chicago, IL the oldest son to Arthur and Barbara (Bundy) Schiefelbein; however, Dave considered Julius George Simko as his Dad.

There was never any doubt by his stance and walk that Dave was a military man, proud to have served his country.  In 1961, with his mother’s permission, he joined the US Air Force in El Paso to see the world and in a cruel twist of fate was assigned to Fort Bliss, El Paso. Seeking adventure, he joined the Coast Guard in 1965, serving in Search and Rescue until 1969 in New Orleans, Corpus Christi and Annette, Alaska.  Then, he enlisted in the US Army in 1971.  He served in Vietnam, Corpus Christi, El Paso, Germany and Ft Belvoir, VA.  After retirement, he was the service area coordinator in Lampasas with Central Texas College.  For 20 years, he was proud to have been a part of the education of so many students.

Dave is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 46 years, Marilynn; his son Jon (Audree) and their daughter Coralynn; his daughter, Julie (Kelly) Fife and their son Nathan; his step-granddaughter, Crystalynn (Patrick) Garnatz blessed to be like a second daughter plus a sister to Julie; and his step-grandson Jason (Ruth) Saenger and their two children Kaiden and Heidi.

In lieu of flowers the family requests you donate blood in Dave’s name, something he strongly believed in and was a frequent donor himself.   If unable to donate please contribute to a Boys’ Home or charity of your choice.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Cheryl Lynn Warren MD, S&W Hospice, Kelly Young, RN, Chaplain Ray Zischang for their loving care and compassion.

The family will receive friends for visitation at 10 :00 AM March 9, 2016 at the Dossman Funeral Home Chapel with a service of remembrance and celebration of life will be 11:00 AM  followed by interment at 2:00 PM at the Central Texas Veterans Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.
