Ronnie Burneal Whitis, 83, of Temple passed away on Monday, September 5, 2016 at Scott and White Hospital in Temple .
A funeral service for Mr. Whitis will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Dossman Funeral Home chapel in Belton with Pastor Rick Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Nolanville.
Ronnie was born on December 8, 1932 in Bell County to Hoyt and Neoma (Middleton) Whitis. He was raised in the Hay Branche Community and attended Belton High School . Mr. Whitis joined the United States Air Force in 1951 and served his country honorably until 1953. In 1967 Ronnie went to work for the Veterans Administration in Temple as an electrician and worked there for 26 years, retiring in 1993 as the foreman of the steam plant. Mr. Whitis married the love of his life Nettie Farris, in 1961 and they were married for 44 years before she passed away in 2005. He was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church in Temple and was a mason.
Mr. Whitis was preceded in death by his parents Hoyt and Neoma, his wife Nettie, brother James Whitis, sister Fay Weatherford, and a grandchild Carl Cornwell. He was a loving father to three daughters, Ann Stanford of Belton, Texas, Jeannie Wiley of Temple ,Texas, and Peggy Sprankle of Little River, Texas. Ronnie was the proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 21 great great grandchildren, and the beloved uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Friday from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton.
