William R. “Bill” Vinson went to be with The Lord on Tuesday, Sept 27, 2016 at his home outside Moody, Texas. Services will be at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church Moody, Texas on Friday, September 30. Visitation will be Thursday, September 29 from 6:00PM-8:00PM at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton, Texas.
Bill proudly served in the US Navy where he was an aircraft mechanic and a crewman on the A-3 Skywarrior. His squadron served aboard the USS Franklin D Roosevelt and the USS Saratoga. While in the Navy, he married the love of his life Dianna Poe, on January 16, 1965. After the Navy, he attended Spartan College in Tulsa, Ok, obtaining Airframe and Powerplant ratings. He worked for American Airlines, in line maintenance, retiring after 35 years. Bill loved just “being” with Dianna everyday. She was his best friend. He loved being around his two sons, Alan and Shad Vinson. He loved his transition from father to friend. They had a great relationship. And he loved playing golf with his bud, Tom Poe.
Bill is survived by his wife of 51 years, sons Alan and wife Kim; Shad and wife Tiffany; grandsons Jake, Josh, Clem and Colt; mother Jean Taggart and her husband Raymond; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations or memorials may be made to First Baptist of Moody, Moody, Texas where Bill was very active. Special thanks to Dr. Tim Martindale, Dr. Carl Chakmakjian and the nurses/staff at Texas Oncology in Waco for their care over the past two years. Thanks, also to Providence Hospice nurses Kristina and Melissa and their staff. Finally, Kay Welch-Hirril of Stoney Brook Senior Living, is recognized, appreciated and loved for her divine support and guidance.
