in Temple. She was born
April 7, 1927
in Scott County, AR to Samuel William Yancey and Rachel Velma (Hunsucker) Yancey.
On October 6, 1946, s
he married the love of her life, Buel Albert Owens in Waldron, AR. They lived in
Scott
County
until 1959 and from there they moved to
Copperas Cove with 2 of their children, Sam and Pam.
Laverne worked as a Sales Associate for Sears for twenty plus years retiring in 1985 and was a devoted member of and Sunday school teacher for
First
Baptist
Church
in
Copperas Cove
for many years.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Buel A Owens; infant daughter, Sharon Jane Owens; three brothers, Dempsey, Kenneth and Charles Yancey; a sister, Wanda Yancey Scott and a granddaughter, Kimberly Kay Hall.
Survivors include two daughters, Pamela Owens Smith and husband Dale of Gholson, TX and Jean Owens McKinney of Salem, OR; two sons, Samuel Richard Owens of Copperas Cove and significant other Paulette Whitfield of Belton,TX and George Albert Owens of Jefferson, OR; a sister, Nadine Yancey Nicholas of San Antonio, TX; eleven grandchildren, Tricia Alexander and husband Steven, Rachel Sizemore and husband Robert, Candice Mieras and husband Robert, Kayla Wait and husband Michael, Melinda Tyler, Faith Koepke and husband Gary, Kelly Miller and husband Todd, Cyd Hall, Amanda Longly and husband KC, Jean Gholson and husband Kyle, and Harold Whitfield and wife Andrea; twenty-seven great grandchildren, Samantha, Mathew and Kaitlyn Alexander, Michael, Heather, Clarissa and Coleton Sizemore, Jaidan and Bryton Mieras, Phoenix Wait, Kyle and Michelle Koepke, Reanna and Kaya Miller, Crystal Atkinson and husband Justin, Kendra Hawkins, Vianne, Aubrey, Josephina and Shepherd Longly, Nathan and Matthew Whitfield, Tyler, James, Melinae, and Jayden Whitfield and one great- great-grandson, Avery Atkinson.
