Russ Hughes, age 39, passed away on November 5, 2016 , in Temple , Texas . He was born October 31, 1977 , in Temple to Clifford J. and Shirley Hayes Hughes, lifelong Central Texas residents. He is survived by KayeC, his wife of nine years and loving companion for nearly 17 years, as well as his parents, his sister Kristen, and numerous extended family members. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Thomas Jarrell Sr. and Ruby Hayes of Belton, and his paternal grandmother Lillie Belle Hughes of Temple.

Russ was a 1996 graduate of Troy High School , a 1998 graduate of Texas State Technical College , and a 2007 graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University . As a gifted graphic artist, Russ created works that are on display throughout the United States in museums, zoos and parks. He was an avid cartoonist and illustrator, who brightened the world through his vivid imagination and insight.

Russ was a beloved son, husband, brother and friend, who inspired us with his creativity, individuality and free spirit. He embodied kindness and compassion toward people from all walks of life, and always kept a sense of humor. Russ thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, especially his years in Oregon and Colorado , and took pride in living a healthy, active lifestyle. He brought tremendous joy to the lives of those who knew him, and he will be deeply missed.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 from 5-7 PM at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton. The graveside service will be private.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals .
