Jessie Durham Lowery

Jessie Carroll Durham Lowery, 98, passed away peacefully with family at her side on Monday, December 5 th . She was born on September 25, 1918 to Barney and Ruth Carroll in Brownwood, Texas at the corner of Martin Avenue and Durham Street. She loved to share that tidbit with people as when she married her last name became Durham. Her family moved to La Feria in 1925 where she began school in the first grade. She attended schools in Primera, Santa Maria and graduated from La Feria High School.

On September 1, 1938 she married Herman Durham who preceded her in death after 56 years of marriage in 1993. She was also preceded in death by a son, Ross Eugene, in 1980. She is survived by four children: Kenneth and wife Elaine of Belton, TX, Carl & David of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Cindy Flores & husband Greg of Canyon Lake, TX; 12 Grandchildren, 16 Great-Grandchildren and 7 Great-Great Grandchildren.

On June 14, 1997, she married William F. Lowery who preceded her in death in 2005. Also in 2005 she moved to Belton, Texas to be near her oldest son, Kenneth and his family where she was a member of the Bell Fine Arts Club, the Temple Porcelain Art Club and The First Baptist Church of Belton.

She enjoyed anything that had to do with art but especially enjoyed china painting which she lovingly shared with her family and friends. She also loved to travel where she made trips to 48 of the 50 states, 7 European countries, all of Central America, Canada and Korea.
