Georgia Ruth Roen

February 24, 1924 — December 12, 2016

Georgia Ruth Griffin Roen was born at home on a farm in Milam County Texas to George Washington Griffin and Mary Elizabeth (Bettie) House Griffin on February 24, 1924. The doctor had to ride a horse out to the house because it had rained so much that the roads were too muddy for a vehicle to travel. Georgia graduated from Buckholts High School in 1941. After graduating she moved to Waco where she worked for Western Union during the day and attended 4-C Business College at night. Shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor Georgia went to work at Waco Army Air Field in the signal office operating a Teletype machine. It was at this time she met a young farm boy from Rice Lake, Wisconsin named Arnold Thomas Roen. They were married on August 18, 1945. After the war they made their home in Belton, Texas where they raised three daughters.

Faith in the Lord was of the upmost importance to Georgia and Arnold. They were active members of First Baptist Church of Belton. Two of the ministries that were special to Georgia were intercessory prayer ministry and the Golden Age Club. She played a strong leadership role in each for many years.

Georgia is preceded in death by her husband, Arnold; youngest daughter, Carol Roen Pittman, her parents and four older sisters. Those left to cherish her memory are daughters Janet Hood and husband Terry, Karen Walsleben and husband Bill, son-in-law Mark Pittman, grandchildren Beth Ann Brown and husband Clint, April Robinson and husband Terry, Jason Hoskins and wife Chelse, Hope Booker and husband Jeff, Portia Moore and husband Micah, Jack Pittman,  Kimberly Haney and husband Bobby. She leaves sixteen great grandchildren, Codie, Casie and Caleigh Robinson, Julie, Raylan and Sophie Booker, Noah, Georgia and Emily Haney, Roen and Robert Hoskins, Cayden and Easton Brown, Andrew and Caroline Moore, a sister Doris Herrington, sister-in-law Mildred Bjugstad, and countless nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Garden Estates, Dr. Simon and the fourth floor staff at Baylor Scott and White Hospital, and Scott and White Hospice.
