Horace Weatherford Sholar, 85, of Belton passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at the Wm. R. Courtney Veterans Home in Temple.
A graveside service with Military Honors for Mr. Sholar will be held on Monday, March 6, 2017 at 9:00 AM at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas with Pastor John Swedlund officiating.
Horace was born on November 2, 1931 in Goldsboro, North Carolina to Columbus and Vivian (Mason) Sholar. He was raised in Aiken, South Carolina and graduated from high school in Aiken. Mr. Sholar attended Newberry College in South Carolina where he received his Bachelor's Degree. Horace joined the US Navy in January 1951 and served for almost four years before leaving. During his time, he served on the USS Princeton during the Korean War. Horace moved to Belton in 1971 and shortly after began a long career in real estate, co-owning ERA Temple Realty until his retirement. He was a member of 3C Cowboy Church in Salado.
Mr. Sholar was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Marie Sholar. He is survived be two daughters, Ronelle Schneider of Belton and Vicki Rhodes of Temple.
A visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 5-7 PM at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton.
