Jimmy Lee Sands, Jr.

Jimmy Lee Sands, Jr., 83, of Temple and formerly of Meridian passed away on Friday, June 9, 2017 in a Temple hospital.

A graveside service for Mr. Sands will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen with Rev. H.K. Ballard officiating.

Jimmy was born on April 22, 1934 in Meridian, Texas to Jimmy Sr. and Willie (Reed) Sands. He was raised and attended schools in Denton. In 1953 Mr. Sands joined the Army and served honorably for two years. In 1970, Mr. Sands began working for the State of Texas in the Occupational Health and Radiation Control department and worked for 25 years before retiring in 1995. Mr. Sands moved to Temple in 2011 to be closer to his family.

He is survived by two daughters, Shannon Torn and her husband Russell of Belton, and Kim Helka and her husband Jimmy of Belton, three grandchildren, Burton (B.J.) Sunbury, Dylan Torn, and Lacey Torn, as well as a great grandson and a great granddaughter.

A visitation will be held on Monday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton.
