SEPTEMBER 13, 1944 - AUGUST 6, 2017

Johnnie Mae Bernhard Oliver passed away August 6th, 2017, in Colorado Springs, Colorado after a lengthy illness due to cancer.

Johnnie was born in San Antonio, Texas, at Nix Hospital. During childhood she lived with her parents Milton D.Barney and Johnnie Mae (Bartlett) Bernhard in the Northside Community and attended Lockhill Elementary, Northside Junior High, and John Marshall High School.  She graduated from John Marshall High School in 1963, attended San Antonio Junior College that summer, and then started at The University of Texas, Austin, in the fall of the year.  While at UT, she met the love of her life, her Texas Aggie husband-to-be, Mike Oliver of Belton, TX. They were married in the spring of 1966 following his graduation from Texas A&M.  After he joined the US Air Force in late 1966, she accompanied him to various assignments in Texas, California, Germany, Colorado, Virginia, and New Orleans.  Their daughter, Robyn Filzen, was born in 1968 during the California assignment.  Following Mike's retirement in 1991, they moved to Carlsbad, NM, where Mike worked at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant while Johnnie continued to pursue her 20-year career with H&R Block as a Senior Tax Professional. After Mike's second retirement at WIPP, Johnnie also retired from Block.  After several more years in Carlsbad, they sold their home and began moving to Monument, Colorado to be near their daughter, Robyn, and her family.

Johnnie was preceded in death by her father, Milton D. Barney Bernhard; her mother, Johnnie Mae Bernhard, (both of San Antonio and Temple, TX); and her sister, Donna Rae Gibson of Harker Heights, TX.  She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Mike Oliver; daughter and son-in-law, Robyn and Tim Filzen; granddaughters, Kathryn and Sarah Filzen, all of Monument, CO.

Originally a member of the United Methodist Church, Johnnie later was a long-time member of the Presbyterian Church in America.

There will be visitation/viewing at the The Springs Funeral Services Funeral Home, Colorado Springs, CO, on Wednesday, August 9 from 4 to 7 PM, and at Dossman Funeral Home, Belton, TX, Friday, August 11, 2017, from 5 to 8 PM, followed by graveside services at the Mary Allen Oliver Three Forks Community cemetery Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 10:00 AM.
