Dorothy Lee (McNiel) Ballard, 88, of Temple passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2017 in Temple.

Graveside services for Mrs. Ballard will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Old Perry Cemetery in Moody with Chaplain Tim Rudolph officiating.

Dorothy was born on December 10, 1928 in Moody to James and Mary (Strange) McNiel. She was raised around the Belton area and attended school in Moody. Mrs. Ballard married Logan Hatter, Sr. and he preceded her in death. She later married John Nelson and he preceded her in death in 1978. She married John Ballard and he also preceded her in death in 1994. She was a member of Twin Cities Baptist Church in Temple and was a homemaker. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt who loved dancing, writing poems, and playing bingo.

She was preceded in death by her husbandsLogan Hatter Sr., John Nelson, and John Ballard, a son Randy Hatter, brothers Marion, Jack, and Ernest, and a granddaughter Crystal Hatter.

She is survived by sons Ricky Hatter Sr. and wife Robin of Pendleton, Tommy Hatter of Belton, James Hatter of Belton, and Larry Hatter, of Belton, daughters Debbie Johnson of Waco, Mary Preece and her husband Coy of Bandera, and Carol Mathias and her husband Robbie of Belton, and a brother William and his wife Billie Ruth of Bryan . Also surviving are 20 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Monday August 21, 2017 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton.
