Bryan Pollard

Bryan Pollard, 88, of Temple and formerly of Midland passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 in Temple, Texas.

Graveside services for Mr. Pollard will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Hope Cemetery in Henrietta, Texas. A memorial service will be held on Sunday at Golf Course Road Church of Christ in Midland at 2:00 PM with Ken Baugh officiating.

Bryan was born on September 13, 1928 in a log house on the Trustin Ball Ranch in Montague County to William Bryan Pollard and Lou Rainey Mae (Stoner) Pollard. He grew up on farms and ranches in Clay and Montague Counties, Texas and graduated from high school at Petrolia, Texas in 1945. He attended Draughons Business College in Wichita Falls, and graduated from Texas Tech University with a BS Degree in geology. On November 24, 1949 he married George Ann Graner, and after graduation from college served as an officer in the US Air Force. He was a Korean War veteran, but spent most of his service time in Japan. He was a charter member of Golf Course Road Church of Christ, and served many years as a teacher, Deacon, and Elder.


After leaving the Air Force, he worked 23 years as a geologist for Cities Service Oil Co., then in 1977 he resigned to form Synterra Exploration Co., and along with a partner operated this company until retirement in 1998. Even though his principle business was oil and gas exploration, he loved farming and ranching and ran his ranch in Clay County until he retired. His hobbies included writing poetry and painting and he left a number of poems and paintings about growing up on farms and ranches in North Texas during the 1930's and 1940's.


He is survived by four daughters, Cheryl Ann Cipriani and family of Fresno, Ca., Susan Kaye Paulson and family of Downers Grove, Illinois, Barbara Dianne Tatom and family of Belton, Texas, and Vickie Darlene Campbell and family of San Antonio, and one son Thomas Ross Pollard and his family of Knoxville, TN. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife George Ann, their daughter Patricia Ann Pollard, and a brother Weldon Ross Pollard.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions may do so to New Mexico Christian Children's Home, Portales, New Mexico or to Midland Christian School, Midland, Texas.
