A Funeral Mass for Garrett Daniel Coppin, 31, of Belton will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, January 26, 2018 at Christ the King Catholic Church with Father John Kim officiating under the direction of Dossman Funeral Home. Following the Funeral Mass there will be a celebration of Garrett’s life in the Christus Center adjoining the main church. A visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, January 25 th with a Rosary at 7:30 at Dossman Funeral Home.
Garrett passed away Sunday morning, January 21, 2018 in Bossier City, Louisiana. He was born on May 16, 1986 in Temple, Texas to Daniel and Tina Coppin. He grew up in Belton and graduated with honors from Belton High School in 2004. Shortly after graduation he joined the United States Navy. He was stationed at Little Creek in Norfolk Virginia, Bremerton, Washington, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He did tours on the aircraft carriers USS John C. Stennis and the USS Iwo Jima in the Persian Gulf. He served as an Intelligence Specialist in the Joint Intelligence Task Force. He received the following awards Joint Service achievement medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Joint meritorious Unit award, Defense Service Medal, Global war on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and Terrorism service Medal. He was honorably discharged from the Navy after 9 years active duty. In the Navy, Garrett was active in volunteering for Wounded Warriors and Educational Service Project for School Children. Following his time in the US Navy, Garrett attended the University of Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton where he was nearing the completion of his degree in Business and Finance.
Garrett loved to travel, play golf, and tournament pool. He was a beloved son, brother and uncle. He had many cousins and friends that he enjoyed spending time with. He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Wayne Coppin and his paternal grandparents Jimmy Charles Coppin and Doris Nell Coppin, his maternal grandmother Margaret Richardson and his aunt Mary Richardson Scarborough.
Survivors include his mother Tina Coppin and brother, Grant Wayne Coppin, sister-in-law Rachel Coppin and niece, Hannah Michelle Coppin and paternal grandfather, John Richardson as well as uncles, aunts and many cousins.
Garrett was an organ donor and his organs were donated to LOPA to benefit the life saving efforts of the association. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Garrett’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project at https://support. woundedwarriorproject.org .
