Mary L. Kuno Carlson

October 24, 1939 – January 28, 2018

Mary Carlson, age 78, passed away on January 28, 2018, in Temple, Texas. She was born in Northfield, MN, on October 24, 1939. Her parents were Myrna and Raymond Kuno. She grew up in Marine on St. Croix, MN. She attended Forest Lake High School and graduated salutatorian.

She met her future husband, Gerald “Jerry” Carlson, while working at the family country store when he came in for an ice cream cone. Mary and Jerry married on October 5, 1957 and had five children, settling in Scandia, MN. They moved their young family to Dallas and eventually to Richardson, TX. She took pride in making a lovely, faith-based home for her family: cooking, sewing, going to church (St. Luke’s Lutheran Church), and attending family activities including sports (especially soccer), theater, music, and dance. Along with the rest of the family, she was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, especially in the days of Tom Landry and Roger Staubach.

Mary and Jerry moved to Temple, TX in 1980. Mary’s career included Scott & White, Carlson Construction, Mary Carlson Construction, and Aaction Auto Glass, where she was employed at the time of her passing. She loved taking part in all of her grandchildren’s various activities. In recent years, she was a member of First Lutheran of Temple, and her favorite pastimes included jigsaw puzzles, solitaire, PGA golf, and watching her 2-year old great grandson Briggs grow up.

Mary was preceded in death by both parents and her husband of 50 years. She is survived by daughter Krista (husband Bobby Giniewicz, their son Chad, his wife Tatum, their son Briggs); daughter Shelley Carlson (husband Jack Donlon); son Lance (wife Sharon, daughters Madison & Megan); son Brooke (wife Sandy, sons Cade & Tanner); and son Clay (wife Kim, son Grant, daughter Bailey).

Visitation will be on Friday, February 2, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton. Funeral services will be held at First Lutheran Church in Temple on Saturday, February 3 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor William J. Sappenfield officiating. Graveside services will follow at Moffat Cemetery.

Mary’s favorite charities included St. Jude’s, ChildFund, and First Lutheran Church of Temple.

Her family wishes to extend their sincerest appreciation to the nurses, doctors, and staff of Baylor Scott and White for the compassionate and loving care she received.
