George Edwin Blake

SFC. (Ret.) George Edwin Blake, 85, of Temple passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at the State Veterans Home in Temple.
Funeral services for Mr. Blake will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton with Quinton Locklin officiating. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at Friendship Cemetery near Davilla, Texas.
George was born on December 9, 1932 in Zimmerman, Ohio to Thomas and Mamie (Harlow) Blake. He grew up in Xenia, Ohio and graduated from Xenia High School. Mr. Blake joined the Army in 1949 and served for 22 years before retiring. While in the military, George was deployed to Korea and Vietnam. Mr. Blake served in the Army Reserves for an additional ten years for a total of 32 years service. After the Army, George worked for twenty years for the US Postal Service before retiring. He was a longtime member of the Belton Church of Christ in Belton. Mr. Blake married Gladys (Cryer) Blake on June 29, 1968, and she preceded him in death in 2016.
George was preceded in death by his wife and a daughter, Georgiann Kirchner.
He is survived by sons Richard Pack, Kelley Pack, and Roger Pack, daughters Vicki Statham, Connie Aldrete, Cindy Blake, Pam Blake, Sandra Chadwick, Jackie Morgan, and Marian Warrick, and two sisters Shirley Holsopple and Connie Pouder. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Cherokee Children's Home, PO Box 295, Cherokee, Texas 76832.
A visitation will be held from 1-2 PM prior to the service on Wednesday at Dossman Funeral Home in Belton.
